AUSTIN -- Bubblin' Red took home People's Choice and Buckeye on the Bayou was the judges' top pick at this year's annual cook-off at Jo's Coffee on South Congress.

In total, fourteen teams competed Sunday for the title of tastiest chili.

Every year the event raises thousands for charities. This year, all proceeds benefit the Sustainable Food Center. Hotel San Jose is matching every dollar raised.

Each team cooks up five gallons of their own special recipe, some chefs hail from Austin restaurants others are amateurs with an eye on winning.

"It’s really kind of a mutual love of drinking and spiced meat. We are all buddies and it’s a great way to spend a Sunday," said Clint Rosenthal, a team member of Bubblin' Red.

Ranch 616, Taco Deli and Foreign and Domestic were among the restaurants taking part in the competition. Ranch 616 owner and chef Antonio Vidal says he named his chili creation the "Barnyard Twerk."

"It’s got buffalo, lamb, pork and beef," said Vidal. "I’m just hoping everyone will have fun."

While the recipes differ, the passion is shared for spicing up a lazy Sunday.

"We do everything from scratch, and we just execute well and have a good time doing it," said Buckeye on the Bayou team member Doug Brown.

The event runs 12:00-3:00 p.m. Taste testing tickets are $20.

At the end of the event the People's Choice Winner was Team Buckeye on the Bayou with their Chili called, "Bubblin' Red."
