AUSTIN -- New details have been released after police made an arrest in the city's 17th homicide of the year.
Elizabeth Garcia, 36, has been charged with killing her boyfriend John Thomas Haney, 46.
APD says Garcia called 911 around 3 a.m. Sunday and said she shot her boyfriend and fled the scene.
Officers arrived at the Great Hills Apartment Complex on Morado Circle near Jollyville Road where they found Haney, who had "obvious trauma to his body" and multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.
Garcia was outside the apartment and was detained by police at the scene. She told police that she and Haney had been arguing when Haney accused her of being pregnant. Garcia said Haney told her he would "beat a baby" out of her, so she shot him multiple times.
Police say they responded to another domestic disturbance between the couple in January 2012. In that incident, Haney told police that Garcia was drunk and wouldn't let him leave the apartment. He also told police that she grabbed his neck when he tried to leave.
The apartment manager for the complex told police that Haney contacted them in the past to try and get out of his lease because he had to "get away" from Garcia.
Garcia is being held in the Travis County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
