ATTLEBORO, Massachusetts -- A middle school principal is apologizing for leaving kids without money without a lunch.

This week cafeteria workers in Attleboro, Massachusetts refused to serve dozens of students a meal, because their lunch cards had a negative balance.

Students reportedly with even five cents of debt were instructed to dump out the food they normally would have eaten.

Federal subsidies also require schools to provide at least a grilled cheese sandwich for kids who cannot pay, but parents say that didn't happen.

The school's principal has since apologized. He is blaming the food vendor for the mishap.
