The holiday season has a huge hole in it for one Kyle family that experienced the unthinkable a few days before Christmas.

On December 23rd around 11 a.m. the 8-year old son of Hector Villareal and other neighborhood children were playing with Princess, the family's chihuahua of four years in the front yard of their home in the 300 block of Stag Horn Pass in Kyle.

Without warning a burgundy Suburban with a woman driving and a kid in the passenger's seat stopped in front of the house.

Hays County Sheriff deputies say it's not clear if it was the woman or the kid who got out of the Suburban however one of them grabbed the dog and they took off.

"They probably see it as a dog but it's really a part of the family," said Hector Villareal.

Lt. Leroy Opiela with the Hays County Sheriff's department says investigators went to the scene, took a report and canvassed the neighborhood but found no signs of the S.U.V. nor the dog.

"It's really sad because you are affecting another family especially kids on this kind of day of the year.  It's just really hard because it's Christmas," added Villareal who also said "I hope I can get her back. It's not just for me it's for my kids because she's part of my family and you always protect your family and in this case I'm going to do everything I have in my hands to get her back."

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hays County Sheriff's Department at (512) 393-7808
