A stabbing at a tailgating party on state property during the last U.T. home game a few weeks ago has gotten the attention of local, county and state law enforcement officials who are promising a larger police presence during tailgating festivities this weekend.
"The stabbing was over on the other side of the street, but the game before there was also a fight over here that we also helped break that up", said David Rangel, a U.T. tailgater who witnessed the meyhem a few weeks ago.
Texas D.P.S. Trooper Robbie Barrera says a stepped up presence of law enforcement officials at all home games is a multi-agency effort and Saturday's game will be no different.
"Some things people could face if they get out of hand at a tailgating party is a public intoxication ticket, or disorderly conduct ticket so it's very important that you be aware of what's going on and the surroundings and try to keep the party as clean as possible", said Trooper Barrera.
While crime is extremely rare at any of the tailgating festivities football fans who spoke to KVUE Friday evening as they were putting up tents say they welcome any kind of presence by law enforcement.
"We hate to see people not getting along and stuff out here there's no reason for it, not at all, it's supposed to be a game", added David Rangel.
