Snow made its first December appearance in Austin Friday, but the flurries quickly disappeared in some areas. The big concern Friday afternoon was an expected hard freeze -- the first for most of the city of Austin so far this season.
Viewers across Central Texas reported snow flurries and some ice accumulation on windshields early Friday. KVUE News crews spotted light snow in Llano, and viewers to the southeast of Austin, in areas like Bastrop and Schulenburg, spotted flurries and ice on vehicles; in fact, very light snow was spotted in North Austin just before 9 a.m. Most of the flurries had all but disappeared by noon.
KVUE Storm Team meteorologists expected snow flurries to move into the Interstate 35 corridor Friday morning through mid-afternoon.
A winter weather advisory was also in effect for much of the morning, but the National Weather Service canceled the advisory before 2 p.m. as the flurries began to end.
A freeze warning was in effect for all of Central Texas from 6 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday. Temperatures were expected to fall into the teens in the Hill Country and the 20s along the I-35 corridor. Residents were warned to protect pets and plants. The low is expected to reach 27 degrees in Austin.
