AUSTIN -- Firefighters say an electrical problem sparked a shed fire in South Austin.
The homeowners on Kandy Drive near Brodie Lane and William Cannon say their dogs started barking around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday. They woke up and realized a shed in their backyard was on fire. The couple grabbed the dogs, got out and called for help.
When firefighters arrived they say the flames had already spread beyond the shed. It started burning the back of the house and inching closer to the home next door.
“The [flames reached the] back of the house where the shed extended onto the deck, into the house,” said AFD Captain Andrew Schultz. “Neighboring homes just had some burning on the facial boards and that was it; no extension to those houses.”
Firefighters contained the flames quickly and kept it from burning anything else.
Investigators say the fire caused $200,000 in damages.
