DALLAS -- It's official.
Shareholders of Belo Corp. have approved the $2.2 billion merger between Belo and Gannett Co.
According to Belo's Corp.'s website, the Dallas-based company hopes to have the sale completed by the end of the year.
Gannett will then take over Belo's 20 television stations across the nation, including KVUE TV. Gannett previously owned KVUE before selling the station to Belo in 1999.
Gannett is based in McLean, Virginia. It will now be the owner of the fourth-largest affiliate group in the nation, according to the Dallas Business Journal, and will own 43 TV stations.
