AUSTIN -- Construction plans for the new teaching hospital in Austin are moving forward.

On Wednesday the Seton Healthcare Family announced that JE Dunn Construction will oversee the project as general contractor. According to Seton construction on the 210-bed hospital is scheduled to begin later this year and will be complete in 2017.

It's expected to cost about $295 million. Seton is paying for the construction and will also pay for operations. Seton says it picked JE Dunn as general contractor in part due to the company's history of working within budget and within set timelines.

In a statement Seton says it whittled down from a list of 16 firms that applied for the construction contract. JE Dunn is currently working on renovation projects at Seton Northwest Hospital.

The new teaching hospital is being constructed across the street from University Medical Center Brackenridge on property owned by the University of Texas.

The school will play a vital role. The area will include UT's new Dell Medical School as well. Altogether the project will create approximately 15,000 new jobs. When the new hospital opens, Seton says it will close doors at UMC Brackenridge.
