Search crews say they have found the plane of a missing Georgetown pilot near the South Arkansas Regional Airport.
Charles Miller was supposed to land at the Georgetown airport five days ago. He never made it.
Late Monday afternoon search crews spotted the private home-built plane from the air. The Civil Air Patrol located the wreckage of the plane near the airport in El Dorado, Arkansas.
That is where the 66-year-old pilot stopped to refuel and wait out a severe storm. He was flying from Norwalk, Ohio back to Georgetown in his airplane.
Ground crews made their way through the thick forest to the site. Miller did not survive the crash.
His wife Susan spoke to KVUE earlier Monday afternoon about the kind of man her husband was.
"Dependable, friendly, takes responsibility for everything, and the whole family acts in that mode were responsible for our action," Susan Miller said.
Charles is a Vietnam veteran who flew KC 135's in the Air Force. His love for flying stayed with him. He built his single engine airplane in his garage and painted it Ohio State colors, scarlet and gray. The plane was named after their daughter, Julie Ann, who died in a car crash in 2000.
September 9 would have been the Miller's 43rd wedding anniversary.
