SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Police are searching for a man they say sexually assaulted a woman over the weekend. Police say the victim in this incident knew her attacker by name.
San Marcos police believe Jonathan Porterie, 22, assaulted the woman at the University Club Apartments on Leah Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. SMPD says Porterie used to live at the complex and was arrested and charged twice for entering unlocked apartments of female residents in September.
"He was entering residences, young women being involved, repeatedly being caught or confronted by the residents," said San Marcos Police Commander Patty Dunn.
A warrant has been issued for Porterie's arrest. The 22-year-old was a former student of Texas State University, where he spent one semester on the football team as a walk on receiver.
Police say they believe he drives a blue 2009 Mitsubishi, possibly a Lancer. The car has Texas plates HXR-453.
"I'm not leaving any doors unlocked anymore," said apartment resident Naomi Gonzales, who received an e-mail and flyer from apartment management regarding Porterie early Monday morning.
KVUE News spoke with a man identifying himself as Porterie's former roommate. He didn't want to go on camera, but says he hasn't seen Porterie since the complex kicked him out in early September.
"I don't understand how all the media is making him out to be this horrible person when he hasn't even gone to court yet," sighed the roommate. "He was the nicest of guys who got along with everybody."
If you have any information on his whereabouts you are asked to call 911 or San Marcos police at (512) 753-2108.
