ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The Round Rock Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the contract for new Superintendent Dr. Steven Flores. Flores was named the lone finalist for the job on August 23.
Flores’ contract will begin October 1, 2013 and end June 30, 2017 and include the same base salary, $260,000, as retiring Superintendent Dr. Jesus Chavez.
The contract also includes benefits such as life and health insurance, expense allowances, contribution to an annuity, incentive and performance payments, and moving expenses.
State law required trustees to wait 21 days after announcing the finalist before extending a contract to the candidate.
Flores has served as the Superintendent of Harlingen Consolidated ISD since July 2008. Prior to working in Harlingen, he served with Dallas ISD, first as the Area VI Superintendent then Deputy Superintendent and finally Chief of Staff. He has served as an Assistant Superintendent for both Pflugerville ISD and Round Rock ISD. While at Round Rock ISD he also served briefly as the Acting Superintendent.
Dr. Jesús H. Chávez announced in January his plans to retire as Superintendent for RRISD at the end of 2013.
Trustees also approved to amend Chávez’s Superintendent employment contract and to revise his title to Advisor to the Superintendent, effective October 1, 2013. They also revised the end of his contract date to reflect December 31, 2013 instead of June 30, 2015.
