ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The Round Rock City Council will take a vote Thursday on a development deal to bring food trailers to town. If approved, developers would establish a food trailer park on North Mays Street near Main Street.
“The trailer food culture in Austin is a place. It's sort of a petri dish for it. I know we didn't start it, but we're certainly one of the leading cities in that regard,” said Heath Riddle of the Long Center.
The popular food trailers have been spreading out to other parts of Austin over recent months. Last October businesses developed the NATY, or North Austin Trailer Yard, off U.S. Highway 183 in North Austin.
“I think it's something the community really wanted and that's what I hear every day,” explained owner of The Dog Pound Tony Clark.
Several businesses are already on board. Starcorp, Inc. operates the Star Co. Coffee and Cafe in Round Rock. It also has a food truck on South Congress Avenue in Austin. The owner has said he wants to move the truck north where there's less competition, but still high demand. He said he's willing to dish up the dollars to establish the Round Rock trailer yard.
