MANCHESTER, NH -- As the polling day came to a close, Ron Paul supporters packed together in Manchester Tuesday night, eager to find out whether New Hampshire shared their enthusiasm for the Texas congressman.
"It has been a long week, but I think Dr. Paul has really enjoyed being here," New Hampshire campaign spokesperson Kate Schackai told KVUE. "We've had some fantastic people, we had him at town halls with four, five hundred people. I think the response has been fantastic."
The last day of campaigning was a frenzy of activity as candidates and supporters made a mad dash for the finish. Ron Paul was among a handful of candidates who arrived to shouting crowds at the Webster School polling location in Manchester, while neighbors looked on in astonishment.
"I've never seen it like this," said Mary Ellen Biletch, who lives down the street from the school. "I've never seen so many people."
Even with her candidate in South Carolina, Perry supporter Nancy Sabet told KVUE she made the trip from Chicago to campaign for the Texas governor herself.
"Rick Perry is passionate, I can connect to him," Sabet said, before quickly laying into his competition. "Romney, are you kidding me? Plastic!"
With the primary voting over, Ron Paul and the rest of the candidates will now put New Hampshire in their rear-view mirrors as they board their buses and head for South Carolina, where Perry has had the state to himself for the last week.
