Residents living in the Cedar Park neighborhood of Riviera Springs say the powerful storms are having a huge impact on them. In fact, they say they have never experienced flooding like this.
They woke up to a river on the roadway the high water came as a shock.
“Usually the pond gets pretty high when it rains but it's never flooded since we've been here,” said Jennifer Humphreis. "Coincidentally, yesterday it was almost completely dry and to see it completely engulfed with water is amazing.”
Humphreis says she and her family were lucky because the flooding just missed their house. “We're at the top of a hill but the bottom is completely submerged in water so we have to walk around the block and through a neighbor's yard just to get to the park,” Humphreis said.
Nearby Rosemary Denny Park recently underwent a $1 million renovation. Now some neighbors say all that hard work is down the drain.
“It's quite a tragedy for us because we just finished the park,” said Jane Rodriguez. “And then this happened so we're hoping it can be fixed pretty soon.”
Rescue crews were sent to Riviera Springs at about 4 a.m. Wednesday morning to get people out of the area. The fast rising flood waters from the pond submerged a number of vehicles and almost completely covered a number of homes.
Now Riviera Springs residents say all they can do is watch and wait for the water to recede, and then the cleanup can begin.
“We’ve never seen anything like this. We've talked to neighbors who've been here 20 years and they've never seen anything like this, Rodriguez said. “It can't get any worse than this I don't think.”
