AUSTIN -- Hundreds of public employees braved the cold and rain Wednesday to rally at the Texas Capitol.

The vocal procession made its way down Congress Avenue before stopping on the Capitol steps. State workers demanded increased funding for state agencies and schools, and expanded Medicaid coverage for low-income Texans.

Senate budget writers have advocated for a three percent raise for state employees. However, demonstrators said that is not enough.

Most state employees haven't seen a raise since 2008.
