AUSTIN -- The troubled Woodridge apartment complex could get a new owner. But the potential buyer says he won't buy the complex unless the City gives him a deal.
Nine months after a walkway collapsed and dozens of code violations forced many Southeast Austin residents out of their homes, the current owner of the Woodridge Apartments says he can't afford to fix it or pay more than $400,000 in fines.
A potential buyer told the City's planning commission Wednesday night that he would take over the property and renovate it. However, the buyer said he wants the City to waive the fines, and he also said the complex would no longer be affordable housing.
The commission will decide next month.
