North Austin homicide investigation
A gunman is on the loose after a deadly shooting in North Austin early Sunday morning.
It happened just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday in a neighborhood on Wonsley Drive, near Gessner Drive. Austin Police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the neighborhood.
Police say they found a man in his late 20s who had been shot in the head. Paramedics took him to University Medical Center-Brackenridge where he later died.
Police say witnesses told them the shooter ran away from the scene before they arrived. Now, the search is on. The gunman is described as a black man, about 5' 5" or 5' 7" and heavy build. He has a gold front tooth. People who live in the neighborhood were shocked and concerned to learn about the homicide.
"I didn't realize someone got killed," said Sergio Divla. "I knew something was wrong and I came out to check it out to see what was going on because a helicopter was just running and running that gave me a sense something was definitely wrong."
Anyone with information about the shooting should call Crimestoppers at 472-TIPS.
