AUSTIN -- It’s said that parents will go to any lengths for their children and on Wednesday Donna and Wesley Palmer lived up to that theory.

The couple drove more than nine hours in one day from Bridge City, Texas to Austin and back.

They were here to plead to the public for help and information that will lead them the finding out more about their daughter's death.

“She just had a potpourri of friends, you know, she didn't care what color you were. If you had earrings hanging out your nose or your ears or even if you were a homeless person, she would save extra Tacos to give to them,” said Donna Palmer about her daughter Katy.

On March 8, Katy Palmer and her boyfriend had just taken the bus back from SXSW to her apartment, the Ion Apartments on Wickersham Lane near East Riverside. Police say a driver hit Katy and her boyfriend in the complex parking lot and took off.

Katy died on the scene. Her boyfriend received a head injury and is okay now, however, his short term memory is affected.

“They're going to have to live with this the rest of their lives. One way or another, they're eventually going to have to face it and personally I wouldn't want something like that hanging over my head,” Donna Palmer said.

A spokesperson for the Austin Police Department told KVUE News that a detective interviewed a suspect on Tuesday. Austin police have several others to interview and made it clear that the case is still active.

Katy’s parents are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction.

Contact Austin police if you have any information about this incident.
