Sales of George Orwell's book "1984" are soaring following all the reports this week about the U.S. government collecting phone and Internet records on millions of Americans. Some editions are moving onto Amazon's Movers & Shakers List, and one even became the 100th best-selling book late Tuesday. "1984" is about a future fictional totalitarian state. It was published in 1949.
Google, Facebook and other companies are asking the U.S. government if they can disclose more information about the national security data requests they receive as they try to explain to customers that authorities don't have unlimited access to user's personal information.
