KYLE, Texas -- Paramedics airlifted the driver a Ford Mustang to the hospital with serious injuries after his car collided with an 18-wheeler on IH-35 northbound Saturday morning.
Kyle police and firefighters responded to the accident near the 216 mile marker at 10:30 a.m.
Witnesses told police the driver of the Mustang was trying to merge northbound on IH-35 from an entrance ramp when he lost control. His car ended up under the 18-wheeler. Both vehicles came to a stop on the highway.
Rescue crews pulled the driver of the Mustang out of his car and took him to UMC Brackenridge in Austin.
He was conscious, alert and talking, but suffered serious injuries to his lower body.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. No other vehicles or people were involved.
Kyle police shut down the highway for two hours following the accident. Traffic was minimally impacted because officers were able to move the vehicles onto an access road and clear the scene.
