MCKINNEY - A 35-year-old father is dead and two houses severely damaged after a home explosion in the 700 block of Lewis Canyon Lane in  McKinney.

The original 911 call came in as a possible suicide.

McKinney police Lt. Scott Brewer said officers responded at about 3:40 p.m. to the report. Officers arrived and made telephone contact withTab Brewer, who was inside the house, and persuaded him to let his wife and five children leave. He says an explosion then tore through the house, setting fire to it and the neighboring house.

While officers tried to go inside and rescue Brewer, a second explosion forced them back.

The man's body was found inside. No other injuries have been reported

Several units from the McKinney Fire-Rescue fought the fire that resulted from the explosion.

Information on what exactly caused the explosion and resulting has not yet been determined.

Collin County tax records show the house was built in 2004 and owned by Tab and Mia Brewer since August 2006. It was valued at just under $169,000.
