Officer suspended after accidentally firing weapon

AUSTIN -- An Austin Police officer will be placed on temporary suspension after unsafely handling a firearm.

Police Chief Art Acevedo wrote in a report saying on August 3rd, Officer Armando Rodriguez was conducting a pre-shift inspection of his shotgun when he unintentionally fired it, causing damage to a vehicle.

Rodriguez will be suspended for one day.
