WASHINGTON -- There’s a new Dog in the White House and just like Bo (the current First Dog), she’s a Portuguese Water Dog, special for the first family because of allergies in their family.
Sunny, a female, was born in Michigan in June of 2012 according to the White House.
The Obamas named her Sunny because of her cheerful personality saying she was, “full of energy and very affectionate,” in a White House blog post.
Bo, who has been busy with official White House business such as visiting Walter Reed and the Children’s Medical Center, will now have a companion to help with the duties.
In October the First Lady told reporters that she hosted a “doggie play date” because “Bo doesn't have enough dog interaction.” So now, in addition to helping with those official duties, Bo takes on the important role of big brother!
In honor of Sunny, the Obamas are making a donation to the Washington Humane Society.
