AUSTIN -- While the drought has Lake Travis is at its lowest level in decades, a new marina hopes boat owners will keep business afloat this summer.

Workers are putting the finishing touches on the cross water yacht club, the newest marina project on Lake Travis. It officially opens for business this weekend.

Already 40 percent of the 247 boat slips are filled and general manager Roland Adams says his marina is filling a growing need.

While all public and most private boat ramps at Lake Travis are closed, his still has plenty of access to the water.

Adams says while the drought has hit the lake hard, it's not as bad as many boaters might think.

"It's gotten a little bit of a bad rap. Obviously there are areas that are dry that were once wet but the amount of water surface that's out here is fantastic," he said. "You just can't get into the little cove areas that you used to."

Adams says with public boat ramps closed this summer, business owners are anticipating far fewer people boating on Lake Travis than in the past.

The new marina will hold a grand opening celebration Sunday afternoon.
