TRAVIS COUNTY -- It took a Travis County jury just four hours to decide the punishment for Kaitlyn Ritcherson's murder setence.
Ritcherson was sentenced to 25 years in jail after being found guilty of the murder of Huston-Tillotson track star Fatima Barrie. The two got into a fight in front of a downtown Austin bar in December 2011.
Barrie was stabbed in the heart and died 17 days later.
Barrie's family said they aren't holding a grudge against Ritcherson.
"I hope that people can really understand that violence isn't really the answer," Barrie's brother Rodrick Watson said. "I think today we need to choose to walk away and make better decisions about [how] we go about our lives engaging with each other."
Ritcherson's mother didn't comment.
Ritcherson will be close to 34 years old before she is eligible for parole.
