MEXICO CITY-- Mexican federal police have announced the arrest of an alleged top member of a drug gang blamed in recent killings and a car-bombing in the violence-ridden city of Ciudad Juarez on the border.
Police on Sunday described Luis Vazquez Barragan as a top member of La Linea gang, the enforcement arm of the Juarez cartel. They say the 39-year-old Vazquez Barragan received orders directly from cartel boss Vicente Carrillo Fuentes.
Vazquez Barragan allegedly organized payments, moved drugs and oversaw a system of safe houses in and around Ciudad Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas.
