AUSTIN -- This is what downtown will look like in a week when SXSW takes the city by storm. The SXSW film conference and the interactive festival begins March 8th, the music part of SXSW starts on March 12th.
The list of celebrities and musicians that will be here in the capital city is long.
Joss Whedon, Jim Carrey, James Franco, Olivia Wilde, Vanessa Hudgens and Perez Hilton are just some of the big names who'll throw parties and grace the red carpets at area theaters.
And hitting stages at venues across town will be bands everyone has heard of, including Green Day. And those just starting to make a noise on the music scene, like Atlas Genius.
Stevie Nicks is slated to speak during the festival, so is Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and Nirvana fame.
But SXSW is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Austin's version of March Madness.
Tomorrow is Texas Independence Day with a parade on Congress Avenue. And on Sunday, thousands will flock to the Zilker kite festival
The UIL state championships began Thursday and will go through the 9th.
Then there's Rodeo Austin that runs from March 8th to the 23rd.
The downtown St. Patrick's Day celebration on the 17th. The Texas Relays are on the 27th 28th and 29th and Austin Urban Music Fest is on March 29th and 30th.
