AUSTIN – We now know the name of the man who was mowed down by an alleged drunk driver at a southeast Austin laundromat Wednesday night.

Adan Recendiz Guevara, 53, is a married father of three, two of them young children who was responsible for cleaning at least three laundromats citywide.

That’s exactly what Guevara was doing around 11pm Wednesday, June 12 at the Kwik Wash on East Oltorf.

Austin Police officers who were in the area at the time say they heard the crash.

21-year old Magan Garcia was later arrested and charged with intoxication assault.

Court records show that Garcia was convicted of drunk driving in 2012 and was on probation at the time of the crash.

"We used to work together and he was real nice, real nice guy. A guy like him, he doesn't deserve this', said Ignacio Jaimes, a friend and former co-worker of Guevara's.

The fear among Guevara's friends is that he will lose both of his legs and they doubt that he has health insurance.

"If it was somebody else you know, bad people. But all the time good people are the ones who you know things happen to them. Bad people you know they're in the streets like I see everyday. They don't lose no legs, nothing", added Jaimes.

Guevara was in critical condition as of Friday evening.
