ROUND ROCK -- A street full of outdoor parties took a dramatic turn on Father's Day.
Round Rock police say they received a call from residents of Nicole Circle just after 5 p.m. on Sunday. When police arrived, a suspect refused to put down his weapon and police fired shots at him.
The suspect had previously shot a 23-year-old woman in the face before officers arrived. Both were pronounced dead on the scene. The shootings happened outside of the home.
Round Rock Chief of Police Tim Ryle says there were many witnesses, plus children who were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
However a man who claims to be the grandfather of one of those children says they did not belong to the suspect or the woman shot. He says the victim was his daughter-in-law's new roommate.
John Soliz says he got a call to get the scene as soon as possible.
"Just to find out that my daughter-in-law's roommate's boyfriend came here and started trouble and ended up shooting his girlfriend."
"It's very tragic. Officers prepare to protect people's lives all the time. Still, when it happens, it becomes a pretty traumatic event for everybody involved," Chief Ryle said.
The two officers involved will be taken off street duty while the case is investigated.
No names have been released at this time.
