AUSTIN -- Police are charging an Austin man with deadly conduct for shooting his neighbor's dog.
Detectives say Christopher Thomas used a shotgun to kill a one-year-old Rottweiller-German Shepherd when it ran into his backyard on Feb. 10.
The dog's owners, Katie Martin and Douglas Menchu, reported the shooting to Austin police and handed over surveillance video showing Thomas standing on his back porch, shooting the dog multiple times.
Police say Thomas claims he shot the dog because his girlfriend and toddler were being threatened by what he calls an aggressive dog.
The dog's owners say they want justice for their dog.
Police detectives are reviewing the video to determine if additional charges will be filed.
