AUSTIN -- A man has been charged in a fatal hit and run accident that killed an Austin cyclist last week.
APD says Michael Joseph Eggenberger, 31, was charged with failure to stop and render aid, which is a third degree felony. He is not currently in custody, but is cooperating with police.
Investigators say Eggenberger was driving along the US 183 service road near Oak Knoll just before 10:30 p.m. Monday when he hit Justin Patrick Murphy, 25, who was on his way home.
Eggenberger fled the scene. Murphy was dead when police arrived.
The case remains under investigation by APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit. If you have information, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
