AUSTIN -- There are changes in the case involving the shooting death of an Austin police officer.

Monday afternoon a district judge announced defense attorney Russ Hunt will take over representation for Brandon Daniel, the 25-year-old accused of killing Austin Police Department Senior Officer Jaime Padron.

The move comes after attorney Bill White withdrew from Daniel's case following what the defense calls "recent issues."

"You just look at this case from the outset, I don't think there's any question he deserves a life sentence and not to be put to death. He's a young kid. He's got no record, and there's nothing indicating that's he's a future danger to anybody," said defense attorney Brad Urrutia.

Daniel's next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 25. The defense says the target date for Daniel's trial is late summer or early fall of 2013.
