Victim of Austin laundromat hit and run dies

AUSTIN -- Austin police say the driver who slammed into a laundromat and put an employee in the hospital is facing additional charges. The victim died Tuesday. Family and friends have a donation can at DJ's Food and Gas to help with medical and funeral expenses.

Now Magan Garcia is charged with intoxication manslaughter in addition to failure to stop and render aid.

Police say Garcia, 21, crashed her Jeep Grand Cherokee through the window of the East Oltorf Kwik Wash on Wednesday June 12 just before 11 p.m.

Police say Garcia's Jeep pinned 53-year-old Adan Recendez-Guevara against the washing machines. He died from injuries sustained.

Garcia tried to leave the scene, but was apprehended by officers that were close by.

According to the Travis County District Attorney's Office, Garcia was already on probation for DWI. She was arrested July 3, 2012.

Garcia has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second degree felony and $100,000 bond, and fail to stop and render aid, a third degree felony and $20,000 bond.
