There is magic in the air this weekend in Austin. Through Monday, the Texas Association of Magicians will be holding its annual convention inside the Sheraton Capitol Hotel.
“It is pretty well known in magic circles,” said TAOM President Hull Youngblood.
Now in its 65th year, the meeting attracts people from as far away as England and Japan.
Trixie Bond came from Houston. A magician for more than 40 years, she has performed at the White House and says magic is serious business. “You do it well like any profession,” she said.
Throughout the weekend there will be demonstrations and items for sale. Yet the real magic may lie in the universal appeal of magic, and the different people it attracts.
“It does not matter what age you are,” said Harry Allen, a magician from Florida. “It does not matter what your income is. Everyone can enjoy magic.”
The convention is open to the public and tickets are available for purchase on site.
This will mark the first time since 1999 that the TAOM conference is being held in Austin.
