KYLE, Texas -- Police in Kyle are trying to find a man they say attacked an employee working inside a model home. They believe the suspect was on the job too.

Police tell KVUE the victim is doing better, and he's been taken out of ICU. Now they're looking for the man who assaulted him on Sunday and left him for dead.

The Post Oak subdivision in Kyle sits on the northeast side of town where new homes and neighborhoods are popping up to accommodate the fast-growing city.

"It's one of the newer subdivisions in the area. It's still currently growing. They're still building quite a few houses out there. They're expanding out a little further east," said Kyle Police Detective Pedro Carrasco.

Kyle police say a man attacked the D.R. Horton sales employee who worked inside the model home on Sunday. A neighbor says the victim is an older man who went above and beyond for the neighborhood.

"Just a real friendly guy, real funny. Always seemed to get along with everybody in the neighborhood. Seemed to care about everything going on in the neighborhood," the neighbor said.

Police believe Arthur Dewayne Carson, 52, beat the victim unconscious and robbed him. Once the man came regained consciousness, he called 911.

"When we arrived he was a little disoriented, so he couldn't give us immediate details as to what had happened to him, but after gathering the facts and noticing injuries, we determined something else had happened," Detective Carrasco said.

Police say Carson was working as a sign spinner, advertising for the new neighborhood. He got the job through an Austin labor agency.

"In this situation, the job for the day was being a sign spinner, so he took the job, and that's how he ended up here in the Kyle area," Carrasco said.

Police say the victim suffered severe head trauma and internal injuries. Carson is still on the loose.

"He definitely didn't deserve something like that. He seems to really go out of his way to help people," the neighbor said. "Whoever did that is a pretty big coward."

Police believe Carson is homeless. He has a history of drug and theft arrests and is already on parole.

"Definitely makes you a little nervous when something like that happens so close to the house," the neighbor said.

Police did track Carson to a church in Austin where he had been living temporarily, but he was no longer there. They are now working with the U.S. Marshals to find him. If you have any information on his whereabouts, contact the Kyle Police Department.
