AUSTIN -- Travis County officials are relieved after a water rescue along Barton Creek nearly ended in tragedy.
Austin-Travis County EMS and Star Flight responded to calls of a man being swept away on Sunday. Witnesses said the man was in rapid moving water calling for help.
The Austin Fire Department says rescuers located the man who fell out of his boat while kayaking.
"I've never seen it this high, this is incredible. We were at the other water head and they had to close it because they said it was about to rise 12 feet higher," said witness Natalie Tucker.
The Austin Fire Department has banned boat traffic and recreational use of Barton Creek until noon Monday.
