Imagine watching your favorite TV show, or KVUE News, in real time, on the go. New broadcast TV technology is being rolled out by stations across the country, including KVUE.

Advertising executives in Austin are learning about the latest gadgets, trends, and innovations in broadcast technology. Now mobile digital TV is making waves and turning heads.

“This is live over-the-air television, coming from your local TV stations. This is the ability to take your favorite TV programs with you where ever you go” said Dave Arland, spokesperson for The Open Mobile Video Coalition. “KVUE is one of the stations around the country, there's about 70 of them, that are pioneering in this area; that are bringing mobile TV to their viewers.”

KVUE is the only station in the Austin market transmitting its news and weather channel in mobile DTV.

A small receiving chip allows your phone, laptop, iPad, and other devices to get live, local TV reception anywhere, with high definition picture quality.

“In Japan, mobile TV is already gigantic. If you sit on a subway in Tokyo, everybody is watching either the news, or a soap opera, or whatever already,” said Chuck Porter, head of the American Association of Advertising Agencies. “There is every likelihood that mobile TV will change things a lot. And it will change the way people consume content.”

Mobile TV viewers will also notice something new on their screens. Advertisers can have an interactive coupon that comes directly to a mobile device and the source for that comes from the local TV station.

It is cutting edge innovation that can mean a new frontier for viewers and advertisers alike.
