The fight over immigration reform continues to fuel emotions in Austin.
Dozens --on both sides of the debate-- turned out to express their views Saturday at the State Capitol.
DPS Troopers stood shoulder to shoulder to keep the peace as both sides shouted inflammatory remarks at one another. The event began as rally for those in favor of Arizona's immigration law.
“I’m for legal immigration,” said Alan Davis. I'm not for illegal invasions. I'm not for people coming here without documentation."
But it quickly turned heated when those opposed to the Arizona immigration law held a counter protest.
"What we really need from our state legislature is a call for comprehensive immigration reform and humane immigration reform,” said Christina Tzintzuna. “We don't need policies based on hate. I think we're a lot better nation. I think we're a lot better state then that."
The Arizona law requires police to question a person's immigration status if officers have a reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country illegally.
Last Month, Texas State Representative Leo Berman announced he wants to introduce legislation similar to Arizona’s and the City of Austin passed a resolution to boycott business with Arizona's government because of the immigration policy.
