CEDAR PARK, Texas -- According to the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, there's been a break in the case of a missing Cedar Park woman.

Vicki Nisbett has been missing since December 14, 1991. She was 29 at the time and last seen in Cedar Park on her way to a Christmas party.

Her estranged husband, Rex Nisbett, reported her missing two days later, but her family said it was highly unusual for her to leave, especially without her three young children.

In 1992, detectives investigated the Williamson County apartment where Vicki and Rex both lived, though they were in the process of a divorce. Detectives found blood in the bedroom that appeared to have been wiped up. In February 1992, her car was found in a parking lot off MoPac Blvd. However, because no body was found, charges were never filed.

A few months ago, the Williamson County District Attorney's Office received a call from a family friend asking the DA to look at the case again.

Thursday a DA's office spokesperson told KVUE News Rex has been indicted on existing evidence on a murder charge in Vicki's death and was arrested Thursday morning in Houston. He is being transferred to Williamson County.

KVUE News asked the DA's office why Rex wasn't previously arrested in this case. "We have no idea why this case wasn't looked at prior to and tried," said Williamson Co. Sgt. Investigator Royger Harris.

Rex has a criminal history, with several mugshots on file.

Harris says Rex "hung his head down in shame" when told during Thursday's arrest that it was due to his wife's disappearance.

If Nesbitt is found guilty, and willing to tell detectives where Vicki's body is to give her family some closure, the The Williamson County D.A.’s office tells KVUE they may take that into consideration when deciding his punishment.
