HOUSTON—A 62-year-old woman who was walking and holding her husband’s hand was struck and killed by an SUV in southeast Houston, according to Houston police.
The couple had just left a dinner party and were walking to their car in the 4300 block of S. MacGregor around 9 p.m. Just as they were about to cross the street, a woman driving a Chrysler Pacifica eastbound on the road hit the wife, sending her flying into the air.
The driver said she did not see the couple until the last minute and tried to slam on her breaks, but could not avoid striking the wife.
The victim suffered a severe head wound and was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she later died.
The driver consented to a blood draw and was not speeding at the time of the accident. Officers said this was a tragic accident and no charges were expected to be filed.
