AUSTIN -- On the day that would have been Courtney Griffin's 32nd birthday, her father Bart Griffin talked publicly for the first time about a jury's decision to grant probation to her killer.
Gabrielle Nestande, 25, was convicted of criminally negligent homicide for the May 2011 hit and run death of Courtney Griffin.
"She killed my daughter. She knew she hit a person. She was lying on the stand," Bart Griffin told KVUE.
A jury granted Nestande probation last week.
"Please come forward. I want answers. If you would reach out to me, it would help give my family closure. We thought getting justice for our daughter would help bring closure. Now we are trying to figure out why we didn't get justice," said Griffin.
During a hearing next month, Judge Karen Sage will decide the terms of Nestande's probation. Sage could give Nestande up to 180 days in jail.
