Three watchdog groups are asking the Texas Supreme Court to overturn a lower court's ruling involving a public records request.
Public Citizen, the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and Texans for Public Justice filed a "friend of the court" brief Friday in the case involving the pharmacy benefits group Caremark, a coalition of labor unions and the state.
The watchdog groups said they disagree with lower court rulings in Travis County that required the labor union coalition Change to Win to disclose information about itself and its associates to obtain documents under the Texas Public Information Act. The watchdog groups said that violates constitutional rights and threatens the public's access to government records.
The labor coalition has asked the Texas Supreme Court to hear the case.
