AUSTIN -- The Golden Hat Foundation held a fundraiser to raise awareness about children with autism today.
The fundraiser walk featured a resource fair for parents and kid-friendly activities. Last month, we told you the story of Keli Thorsteinsson, a 16-year-old Vandegrift High School student with autism. He was at the event today, too.
It was his story that inspired actress Kate Winslet to start the Golden Hat FOundation. The goal is to help autistic children receive the education they may be lacking.
According to the CDC, autism affects one in every 50 children in the United States. Boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls.
