AUSTIN, TX - One hundred homes are without water in Hyde Park because of 12-inch water main break at Ellingson and Red River, just one street south of 45th.
Water began to flood several streets in the Hyde Park neighborhood around 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. For roughly half an hour, tens of thousands of gallons poured out with such force sections of Ellingson street were pushed up off their foundation. Crews were able to turn off the flow and begin excavating the area surrounding the busted water main.
"Right in front of my school all of a sudden here we got a flood going down the road," said Hyde Park resident John Brinson. "I think the water main broke and we had to move a few cars out of the way real quick and fortunately, I don't think anything got flooded and nothing got damaged too bad."
Offiicals say homes between Red River, 45th, Ellingson, and Bennett streets should be without water until around 10 p.m. Wednesday night.
Austin Water Utilities crews are excavating the main to try to repair it, creating a large whole in Red River Street.
There is no cause of the break at this time.
