Austin police say they have cited their first violator of the new driving while texting law.
During the first week of February, an officer spotted a car going under the speed limit and weaving on southbound Highway 183 near Ohlen Road in North Austin.
The officer pulled alongside and watched the driver using a phone to text messages.
That person was pulled over and given a ticket.
Even though the ban went into effect in January, APD allowed a 30-day grace period.
Offenders face a $500 fine.
