AUSTIN -- As you plan your New Year's Eve celebrations the Austin and Cedar Park Fire Departments want to remind everyone that fireworks are banned inside city limits.

Because of Texas' extended drought and the high risk of fires, burn bans are in place for most Central Texas counties. Fireworks stands have agreed to not sell anything which shoots into the air.

Cedar Park officials say fireworks are illegal within city limits and less than a mile of the city.

“It can be confusing, but we want residents both inside and outside of the city limits to play it safe this holiday season and not use fireworks at all,” Cedar Park Fire Chief James Mallinger says.
