AUSTIN -- A fire on a cliff threatened Lake Austin homes overnight.
Flames broke out near Mansfield Dam at Low Water Crossing Road just south of RM 620 around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
AFD says the fire was 80 percent contained aroung 9 p.m., and firefighters worked to extinguish hot spots near area homes.
Fire officials say the holiday season is when they see a lot of fires.
"The brush out here in the lake area is very volatile. It's been dry. People just think that just because we've had a couple of cold spells that everything should be safe, but that's not the case. We can still have large fires in the cold," Assistant Fire Chief with Lake Travis Fire Rescue Robert Abbot said.
No evacuations were issued. Crews kept watch over the cliff for hours into Wednesday to make sure the fire didn't re-ignite.
