If you've been waiting to add a furry friend to your family, now's the time.
Hundreds of cats and kittens are available for adoption at the Austin Humane Society (AHS) and the Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC.) Both places have reduced adoption fees, and cats older than 5 are free.
This spring the shelters received hundreds more cats than were brought in last year during this time.
"We are pleading with the community to adopt. Because we have more cats than ever, we need more adopters than ever. We are hopeful that these animals will be adopted very quickly, the sooner these animals are adopted, the sooner we can save more cats from euthanasia at TLAC,” explains Frances Jonon, AHS Executive Director.
To encourage adoptions, TLAC and AHS have lowered adoption fees on cats and kittens to $35. If you adopt two cats, the second one is only $20 - making it cheaper to give your new kitty a companion. Adoption fees for cats age five years and older are always waived. Adoption fees include microchip, spay/neuter, and up-to-date vaccinations. AHS adoption fees are typically $85.
