UPDATE - Tues. 1/22: The man killed in this accident has been identified as 24-year-old Glenn George Alexander II.

Deputy David Morris with the Travis County Precinct 5 Constable's Office was the constable involved in the chase, and has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.

BASTROP COUNTY -- The Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal accident Friday on State Highway 95 and Big Sandy Road following a police pursuit.

According to DPS, Travis County constables from Precinct 5 were serving a child support warrant for a female subject around 1:15 p.m. Friday Jan. 18. A male who the constables were not looking for fled from the scene at high speed.

Travis County constables pursued the man. The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office reports the man reaching speeds as high as more than 100 mph.

"A car was going too fast, tried to make that turn and hit that tree. They tell me that he was being chased by police," said Larry Jackson.

Larry Jackson owns a body shop in town. He's lived at Highway 95 and Big Sandy Road for six decades.

"I've been out here 60 years. Since they widened this road there's been more people killed in the last 5 years than the 60 years I've been out here," said Jackson.

About four miles from where the warrant was served, the man hit a tree and was killed. No one else was injured.

Travis County constables say the man had an outstanding felony warrant.

DPS is investigating the scene of the accident, and Travis County constables are reviewing their deputies' actions in the execution of the warrant.
